  • Lorpen Inferno Expedition Polartech Sock
We brought this sock into Barney's for 1 specific reason. WARMTH! Great for use with Waders and Spring Bear and Fall Moose Hunts where extended time on the glass in wet conditions is a standard. If your feet have ever been cold while wearing the iconic Big Chief Hip Boots, or even your Simms Pant Waders while sitting all day, these socks are a must. The ultimate sock for high altitude expedition use. Designed for hard shell mountaineering footwear and extended cold weather activities in extreme environments. Hand sewn and designed with specific left and right foot anatomical shapes for precise fit. This is the cutting edge of warmth technology! Based on feedback we received from professional mountaineers and cold-weather athletes we learned that most wool socks on the market were too constrictive and maintained moisture during their activities. This can be dangerous in parts of the world where a wet foot can lead to hypothermia or other serious conditions. Our design team wanted to solve this problem by creating a sock that would be incredible warm and dry. We searched the globe to find materials and a construction process that provide the perfect combination of elasticity, support, and warmth. We found that perfect combination in Polartec® Power Stretch and Primaloft® Yarn. Two Layers of Polartec® Power Stretch on the outer layer of the sock provide warmth without increasing weight. The smooth outer layer is wind- and abrasion-resistant; the soft inner layer pulls moisture away from your skin keeping you dry, warm and comfortable. The inner layer of Primaloft® Yarn is made up of ultra-fine polyester fibers which are finer than cashmere, resulting in a luxuriously soft feel while providing unparalleled moisture wicking. When hiking, climbing or doing any aerobic activity, your body works up a sweat and emits heat and perspiration, but when you suddenly sit idle, you can easily start to freeze with an insulation that absorbs water. Primaloft® fibers wick moisture away from the skin and trap body heat. Tested above 8,000 meters by athletes in real world conditions, you won't find anything else like these. Special sizing applies to these socks. Please check sizing chart below. FEATURES Heavily insulated and designed for high altitude climbing Performs like a traditional sock (Stays up on your foot, fits snuggly) Left Foot/Right Foot anatomical design for a precision fit that ensures better blood and nerve flow and unrestricted movement Hand sewn in Spain to maintain the highest quality in every pair Polartec® Power Stretch provides elasticity, support, and warmth Primaloft® Yarn insulation is soft against the foot while working to trap body heat and wick moisture away from the foot

  • Sitka Gear Stormfront Jacket, Optifade,
We often hear that Gore-Tex will always fail under heavy rain, and are constantly battling consumer forums that talk down it's functionality in Alaska. That being said, we also understand that the only way to combat this is to spend the time with our customers to educate them on the reality. There are multiple types of Gore-Tex, all having their specific end uses. Most importantly is the inner and outer face fabric's durability. For example: The Cloudburst series from Sitka, along with many other big brand name companies such as Outdoor Research, Arc'Teryx, and Simms who all construct many different Jackets with a 2 layer construction. A 2 layer Gore Product is designed for quick burst of rain / precipitation. It generally is highlighted by its ultralight and packable properties, however we MUST note that when you save on weight, there is bound to be a compromise. Although the Cloudbust series has it's place in the Hunting Industry, at the end of the day, it is not built for Alaska. We like to focus on the 3 layer construction and those products that are in fact designed for the rugged, harsh conditions that we encounter in the shale infested backcountry of Alaska's mountains. The Stormfront and Coldfront series both incorporate not only a 3 layer construction, but a much higher denier outer face fabric to help protect that waterproof breathable membrane. The Coldfront is the go to rain jacket for Brown Bear, Moose, and Caribou hunts, or any hunt where weight isn't the #1 priority, but as a hunter you still want a packable set of rain gear. The Coldfront is lined with a thin fleece to help keep your core temperature up when on the move in late season. The old saying up here in Alaska is there isn't anything that will hold up like a Helley Hansen Guide Jacket. While we LOVE the Guide Jacket from Helly, we also recognize that this industry is constantly progressing, along with it, the technology. The Coldfront and Stormfront Jacket's have been Guide tested from the beaches of the Alaska Peninsula, to the gates of the Arctic Circle and we are confident in their ability to keep our hunters warm, dry and most importantly, in the game when the weather gets bad. - Severe weather protection - Articulated arms - Pit zips - Zipper garages - 24 oz
