The Kaitum has been a staple of Alaskan mountain hunters for years. The Kaitum uses a tunnel design, which allows Hilleberg to create a roomy floor layout without adding a lot of weight and without compromising the durability of the tent. Tunnel tents rely on careful pitching to perform well, but once properly pitched can handle just about any weather condition or combination. Rain and snow slide off and wind slips over the sleek design. The Kaitum was conceived as an ultra light version of another Hilleberg tent, the Keron. By using 9mm tent poles and Kerlon 1200 fabric the Kaitum is able to boast a very light weight without compromising durability or strength. A long floor plan and dual vestibule spaces with doors adds versatility to an already unique and mobile tent. The Kaitum and Kaitum GT are outstanding for use in protected terrain in any weather, and both are also easily robust enough to handle use in exposed and/or above tree-line terrain in all but the worst conditions. And both the Kaitum and Kaitum GT are excellent for warm weather endeavors, since the front section of both the standard and the extended vestibules can be completely rolled away for maximum air flow.
