Description

Named after an Alaskan icon that Piper introduced in the late 1940’s and has been a staple in remote bush flying in Alaska, PA 18 was the best fitting name for a pant born in the remote mountains of Alaska.

No one is reinventing the wheel these days. We pay attention to what works, and what doesn’t. Not just the end product but the fabrics, the sewing, the textiles, the styles etc. The PA 18 utilizes what we found to be the perfect blend of Nylon and Spandex, pocket placement derived from years of working retail and seeing the pros in some pants, and cons in others. There are plenty of awesome pants on the market, no question as we sell most of them. However Barneys has always been about filling a niche, and a void in the industry has been a lightweight, breathable and durable pant that was able to not only withstand the varying temperatures of early season sheep hunting, but also the rugged terrain in which they inhabit.

I’m confident that we have created something special with this pant, and just like our 1/4 zip pullovers, and our insulated jackets that Bob and I worked on for years perfecting the fit, function and technical fabrics, this pant has been all across the world already and has proven its time to let it out!

We went through 4 prototype stages which included field testing from guides and mountain hunters from across the globe. Starting with a basic concept, adding and subtracting features based on function, and refining the fit were all key aspects of the final product. From chasing giant bull elk in New Mexico, Axis Deer in Hawaii, Big Horn in Montana, to Dall sheep in the many mountain ranges across Alaska, and just about every other Big game species Alaska has to offer. This pant has seen the time in the field needed and passed with flying colors.
